How to Improve The Temperature Rise of The Servo Motor Effectively?

The working characteristics of the servo motor change with temperature. When the temperature rises, the winding resistance increases and the operating point of the permanent magnet decreases. The winding temperature is related to power consumption, thermal resistance and time, and the temperature rise of the magnet is often different from that of the winding. Check and confirm following the steps below:

1. If it is used for continuous operation or not?

The characteristics of the servo driver motor determine that it is not suitable for continuous operation. There must be a higher temperature rise when used in this situation. Please reconfirm the operating requirements of the mechanism and re-evaluate the motor used.

2. Please confirm the operating frequency and cycle of the organization.

If the stop-and-go action frequency is too high, the pulse input may be stopped for too short time, which may cause the current to be reactivated before it drops, so the temperature rise at this time must be relatively high. It is recommended that you reduce the frequency of actions to improve the temperature rise problem.

3. Can reducing the RUN current improve the situation?

When the torque is sufficient, reducing the RUN current of the driver will effectively reduce the temperature rise. However, if a larger current must be used due to the torque, it is recommended that you replace the motor with a larger motor and then lower the current to improve the temperature rise problem.

4. Does reducing the STOP current improve the situation?

When the holding force is enough, reducing the STOP current of the driver will effectively reduce the temperature rise when the motor stops. However, if a larger STOP current must be used due to the stop holding force, it is recommended that you replace the motor with a larger motor and then lower the current to improve the temperature rise problem.

5. What is the ambient temperature? Is it too high?

Motor temperature = ambient temperature + motor temperature rise. When the ambient temperature is high, the temperature of the motor will also be high. It is recommended to install a cooling panel or a cooling fan to help dissipate heat.

6. Please confirm whether the wiring at the motor end is correct?

Wrong phase connection will cause the jitter phenomenon of the motor running unsatisfactorily, and it can also occur the problem of higher temperature rise at this time.

If there is no problem with the above reasons, the motor temperature should be normal in this case, and it is not overheated. Please directly measure the actual temperature of the motor with a thermometer. For our driver, because it has an overheating protection function, if the temperature is too high, the protection function will be turned on, and the servo motor will be powered off at the same time, so that customers can use it more safely.
